Last night, Steve Kimock opened a run of three Steve Kimock & Friends shows at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California. The guitarist’s band for the run features drummer , keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and bassist Reed Mathis. Saxophonist Rob Sudduth sat-in for most of the evening’s second set.

The quartet opened with a 40+ minute pairing of “Point Of No Return” and “Mr. Potato Head.” Next, Steve Kimock & Friends played the Mathis-penned “Twinstar” before closing out the frame with a cover of Ernest Ranglin’s “Nana’s Chalk Pipe.” Last night’s second set got underway with the tender “In Reply.” Then, Sudduth emerged for “Whack” and stuck around the rest of the set. “Whack” was followed by “Resolution” from John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme.

Steve, John, Jeff, Reed and Rob kept the jazz covers coming with Oscar Peterson’s “Hymn To Freedom.” The quintet ended the night with a version of “You’re The One” featuring “Pusherman” within. Watch full show pro-shot video shared by the venue:
