Steely Dan Performance Of ‘Countdown To Ecstasy At Beacon Theatre Includes Bust Outs

On Friday night jazz-rock pioneers Steely Dan played the penultimate performance of a ten-show residency at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. The band’s set included each and every song from their sophomore studio effort Countdown To Ecstasy, which featured a handful of tunes that Steely Dan rarely plays.
Co-founding members Donald Fagen and Walter Becker emerged as their talented backing band performed Donald Byrd and Booker Little’s “November Afternoon.” Steely Dan then ran through each of the eight songs found on Countdown To Ecstasy. “Bodhisattva” and “Razor Boy” were up first, then Steely Dan dusted off “The Boston Rag” for the first time since July 31, 2015. “Your Gold Teeth” then came off the shelf following a three-month layoff. Favorites “Show Biz Kids” and “My Old School” led into the evening’s biggest bust outs as “Pearl Of The Quarter” returned for the first time this year and “King Of The World” was played for the first time since August 24, 2013 as per Setlist.FM.
After performing all of Countdown Steely Dan focused on their most beloved songs over the remainder of the set including “Hey Nineteen,” “Aja,” “Dirty Work,” “Black Friday,” “Peg,” “Josie,” “Kid Charlemagne” and “Reelin’ In The Years.” The band then said farewell with a “Pretzel Logic” encore.
