Star Kitchen kicked off the latest leg of their fall tour with the band’s first original last night in Pittsburgh. The Tuesday night show took place at Thunderbird Cafe & Music Hall and also featured a sit-in from Snarky Puppy saxophonist Chris Bullock.

Star Kitchen consists of The Disco BiscuitsMarc Brownstein on bass, Danny Mayer on guitar, keyboardist Rob Marscher and drummer Marlon Lewis. Marscher wrote “DVRKNESS,” the group’s new, and for now lone, original. “DVRKNESS” opened the quartet’s set in Pittsburgh and was followed by takes on “People Make The World Go Round” by The Stylistics, the funky “Bubblegum” and Bob James’ “Nautilus.”

The set continued with Star Kitchen’s rendition of “September 13” by Deodato before Bullock emerged from the shadows to provide a blistering solo on War’s “The World Is A Ghetto.” The four-piece then wrapped up the set with a run of “What About It?,” “Curselifter” and The J.B.’s “Hot Pants Road.”

Next up for Star Kitchen is a Wednesday night show at Magic Bag in Ferndale, Michigan and a Thursday night performance at Bell’s in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In other SK news, the band announced a late-night concert at New York City’s Sony Hall. Star Kitchen will be joined by the Trey Anastasio Band horn section of Jennifer Hartswick, Natalie Cressman and James Casey as well as guitarist Eric Krasno on December 29. Tickets go on sale Thursday, October 17 at 12 p.m. ET via Ticketmaster.
