Spoon Announces Departure Of Bassist Rob Pope & Confirms Addition Of Ben Trokan

Earlier in the week, Spoon announced the departure of their long-running bassist Rob Pope. Now, the Austin, Texas-based rock act has confirmed that Ben Trokan will step into the role of the group’s bassist.

On July 9, Pope, who has been with the band since 2006, issued a statement about his departure. Citing the need for “more time with family and personal projects,” the bassist informed fans that he is still on good terms with the rest of the group, noting that he “was lucky to share the stage, bus, and studio with” his bandmates. In addition to thanking the road crew, management and fans, he also explained that he will “continue to work on new music, including touring and recording with The Get Up Kids.”

The following day, on July 10, Spoon announced that Ben Trokan would join the group and posted a photo of their newest member. In the statement, the group noted that Trokan will begin his tenure with Spoon tonight, July 11, during the band’s tour-opening show at Ridgefield, Washington’s Sunlight Supply Amphitheater. Spoon will open for Beck and Cage the Elephant for this upcoming outing.
