On August 19, a new live archival release featuring a Dave Matthews solo show from 1996 will be released. Live At Sweet Briar College includes Dave’s fabled April 14, 1996 performance and will be issued as a 2-CD set. Not only has a recording of the show never circulated, but a setlist wasn’t even confirmed until today’s announcement.
All proceeds from the release will benefit Sweet Briar College, a women’s liberal arts college near Lynchburg, Virginia that was set to close last year when a group of alumnae and friends came together to save the school. Audio of “Pay For What You Get” from Live At Sweet Briar College was recently posted in honor of Sweet Briar College’s Class Of 1996 reunion. Listen:
A note announcing the “new” release mentions, “The show is intimate and carefree and Dave takes his time sharing stories regarding the place of inspiration for ‘Crash Into Me’ (a dorm within viewing distance of the stage) and a recent trip to Africa. This rare performance features beautiful solo acoustic renditions of full-band songs with highlights including ‘#41,’ ‘Lie In Our Graves,’ ‘Seek Up’ and ‘#36.'”
Live At Sweet Briar College is available for pre-order now. CDs will ship on or around August 16, while downloads will be available on August 19.
