Michigan funk act Vulfpeck concluded a four-night run in New York City Saturday with their third show at Brooklyn Bowl. Like previous nights on the run, the quartet welcomed many guests to the stage throughout their performance.
The four-piece was again joined by guitarist Cory Wong and percussionist Richie Rodriguez for the complete concert. The first guest to come to the stage last night at the Brooklyn Bowl finale was renowned drummer Bernard Purdie who helped out on “Adrienne & Adrianne.” Frequent Vulfpeck guest vocalist Antwaun Stanley then emerged to sing the R&B classic “Ooh Child” and Lake Street Dive frontwoman Rachael Price joined in on The Beatles’ “Something” as did opener/saxophonist/keyboardist Joey Dosik. Dosik also stuck around for his “Game Winner” with Purdie still behind the kit.
The drummer left the stage as trombonist Melissa Gardiner and tuba player Ibanda Ruhumbika came on to assist “1612,” “Funky Duck” and Steely Dan’s “Peg,” as well as “Wait For The Moment” before Stanley exited ahead of “Back Pocket.” Guest-free renditions of “Beastly,” “Christmas In L.A.” and “It Gets Funkier” followed. Dosik came back for the set closing “Outro” and vocalist Darren Criss and Purdie (who performed on the original studio recording) assisted on a cover of Hanson’s “MMMbop” for the encore.
