Snarky Puppy Drops ‘Belmont’ Single
Watch a live performance video of the latest ‘Empire Central’ preview.
Snarky Puppy detailed Empire Central in June and shared the lead single, “Trinity.” The band captured the album in front of a live in-studio audience at Deep Ellum Art Company in Dallas as a tribute to the city that fostered the band in their formative years at the prestigious University of North Texas jazz program in nearby Denton, Texas. In July, the band further previewed Empire Central with “Bet” and also announced Spring 2023 tour dates.
The latest single, “Belmont,” is based on the flamenco rhythm Alegrías. Bandleader Michael League named the song “Belmont” after the street he lived on during his time in Dallas not far from where the band’s late mentor Bernard Wright — Empire Central contains Wright’s final recorded performance — conducted a Monday night residency at Gezellig. After the show, the musicians would head to League’s house on Belmont for a weekly after-party.
