Sinners co-stars Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq led an all-star crew through a memorable performance of “I Lied To You” on Sunday the 2026 Academy Awards telecast. Blues legend Buddy Guy, Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard, acclaimed contemporary blues star Christone “Kingfish” Ingram and country upstart Shaboozey were among those that helped recreate the “Pierce The Veil” segment from the film.
Music plays a significant role in the Ryan Coogler film that took home four Oscars wins after breaking the record for most nominations in a single year with 16. Sinners scored trophies for the Best Actor (Michael B. Jordan), Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Original Score Oscars. “I Lied To You” was nominated in the Best Original Song category, which was won by “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters.
“Golden” and “I Lied To You” were the only songs performed during the ABC Oscars telecast. Raphael Saadiq started the “I Lied To You” performance before Miles Caton, who portrays Sammie Moore in Sinners, took the lead. The stage was designed as a juke joint from the film. Ballet dancer Misty Copeland showed off her skills during the star-studded performance.
Buddy Guy, Shaboozey, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Brittany Howard, vocalist Alice Smith and blues great Bobby Rush each contributed to the time-jumping “I Lied To You” performance along with Caton, Saadiq and their fellow Sinners’ co-stars Jayme Lawson and Li Jun Li. Guy also appears in the film as an elderly version of Sammie Moore.
