Sharon Jones Reveals Cancer Return

The previously reported documentary film about the life of soul singer Sharon Jones, Miss Sharon Jones! made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend. After the screening Jones reportedly told the audience that her cancer, which had been in remission, had unfortunately returned.

Directed by two-time Academy Award winning director Barbara Kopple, Miss Sharon Jones! chronicles Jones’ battle with pancreatic cancer which she was diagnosed with in 2013 and underwent intensive surgery and chemotherapy to fight. After the film was shown Jones took to the stage and as reported by Indiewire stated, “I start chemo on Wednesday. But I’m gonna keep fighting. We got a long way to go.”

Jones and her band The Dap-Kings recently announced the upcoming release of a holiday-themed album, entitled It’s a Holiday Soul Party. The new album will be issued by Daptone Records on October 30.
