Seth Walker will release his 11th album, I Hope I Know, through Royal Potato Family on May 20. The North Carolina-based singer-songwriter shared the album’s lead single and opening track, “The Future Ain’t What It Used To Be,” and confirmed headlining tour dates in support of the LP.
Walker tapped The Wood Brothers‘ Jano Rix to produce the 10-track effort. I Hope I Know marks Seth’s third studio collaboration with Rix. The material on I Hope I Know was penned during and informed by a rough patch for the singer-songwriter that saw him go through a breakup, move from Nashville to Asheville and deal with the strain of the pandemic. Walker used the time off the road to spend longer on the LP than he usually would as Seth just had to “sit with it.”
“This last year and a half has personally cracked me open. In many ways, for the first time, I’m observing myself and how I relate to the music, how I sit with the feeling, the emotion, my shadow and light,” stated Walker in a press release. “I have always been in this place of action, and finally, when all this happened, I found myself in a place of relinquishing—an active state of inaction.”

While work started on the album back in 2019, Seth fully immersed himself in the writing and recording process during the second half of 2020. I Hope I Know includes three songs written by Walker with Rix’s Wood Brothers bandmate, Oliver Wood. Gary Nicholson and Jarrod Dickenson also made writing contributions for the follow-up to Seth’s 2019 album, Are You Open? Additionally, the upcoming record features covers of Bobby Charles’ “Tennessee Blues,” Van Morrison’s “Warm Love” and Bob Dylan’s “Buckets Of Rain.”
Seth Walker head to Texas in May to start his I Hope I Know tour with concerts in Dallas on May 19, Austin on May 20 and Houston on May 21. June stops come in Pennsylvania, Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Washington D.C. and North Carolina.
