Guitarist Scott Metzger released a new single entitled “Waltz For Beverly.” The track appears on Too Close To Reason, his debut solo album set to arrive via Royal Potato Family on March 4.
Scott Metzger has a long and illustrious resume that includes membership in Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, RANA, WOLF! and The Showdown Kids as well as work with John Scofield, Shooter Jennings and Nels Cline. The New Jersey native penned 12 acoustic guitar compositions for inclusion on Too Close To Reason. Metzger wrote and recorded the contemplative tunes while forced off the road due to the pandemic. Scott’s wife, Katie Jacoby, is the only other musician featured on the LP as she added violin to the ballad “Only Child.” The guitarist previously shared the album’s lead single, “Don’t Be A Stranger.”
“This was one of the last tunes written and recorded for the album. It didn’t occur to me until after I recorded it that it is a lullaby with an element of Irish reel music to it,” noted Metzger regarding his new single. “The song was inspired by a stuffed animal bat named Beverly who lives in our house that has become a bit of a mascot. This one played itself—everything you hear on this song was a first take in the studio. Dan Goodwin’s mix of the song adds to the overall cloud-like mood.”
