Santana & Doobie Brothers Collaborate In Wheatland
By Scott Bernstein Jul 2, 2019 • 11:54 am PDT

Santana and the recently launched a co-headlining summer tour that continues through August 25. The first collaboration of the run came on Thursday night at the Toyota Amphitheatre in Wheatland, California when members of The Doobie Brothers sat-in with Santana.
The Doobie Brothers kicked off the night with a set heavy on material from their pre-Michael McDonald days including “Long Train Running” and “China Grove.” Santana then focused on songs from Carlos’ Woodstock days before bringing out Patrick Simmons and Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers for a cover of the Zombies’ “She’s Not There.” Simmons, Johnston and Santana weaved portions of Eric Burdon & War’s “Spill The Wine” and the Undisputed Truth’s “Papa Was A Rolling Stone” within the Zombies’ cover.
