The Rolling Stones Welcome Gary Clark Jr. At Foxborough

The Rolling Stones brought out their first guest of 2019 on Sunday night, when guitarist Gary Clark Jr. jammed with the band at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The guest spot came after The Stones dusted off a classic after nearly two years by request of fan voting.

Last night, the legendary rockers opened with “Street Fighting Man” as they seem to be alternating between Beggars Banquet gem and 1968 single “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” to kick off each show of their current North American tour. A run of “It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll (But I Like It)” and “Tumbling Dice” was followed by the first “She’s So Cold” since October 25, 2017. The Emotional Rescue track won out in fan voting over “Out Of Control,” “Like A Rolling Stone” and “Live With Me.”

Gary Clark Jr. and his band began the night at the home of the New England Patriots with an eight-song set that fittingly came to a close with “Low Down Rolling Stone.” Stones’ vocalist Mick Jagger thanked Clark for opening after “She’s So Cold” and then welcomed the guitarist to the stage. Gary Clark Jr. teamed up with The Rolling Stones on Eddie Taylor’s “Ride ‘Em On Down.” The Stones recorded a cover of the song for their 2016 blues album Blue & Lonesome. Clark Jr. has a long history of performing with the band that dates back to an appearance at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on December 8, 2012.

The Stones moved over to the B-Stage after Clark Jr.’s sit-in for performances of “Play With Fire” and “Dead Flowers.” The rest of last night’s concert lined up with other shows on the run. Guitarist Keith Richards led “Slipping Away” and “Before They Make Me Run” before a run of hits and an extended “Midnight Rambler.” Sunday’s main set ended with “Brown Sugar” before the band offered an encore of “Gimme Shelter” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”
