The Rolling Stones Deliver Debut, Rarity & ‘Sweet Sounds Of Heaven’ At 2024 Tour Kick Off In Houston

The Rolling Stones launched the 2024 North American Tour around their new album Hackney Diamonds at NRG Stadium in Houston on Sunday. The legendary rock ‘n’ roll band fittingly kicked things off with “Start Me Up,” debuted a Hackney Diamonds cut and broke out a Keith Richards-led rarity.

Hackney Diamonds arrived on October 20, 2023 and is The Rolling Stones first studio album of new material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang. It’s also Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood’s first record released since the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021.

The drumming of Charlie Watts, however, was present on Hackney Diamonds with posthumous appearances on “Live By The Sword” and “Mess It Up.” The Stones debuted the latter in Houston on Sunday with drummer Steve Jordan behind the kit following the fan-voted “Beast of Burden.”

The concert continued with classics “Tumbling Dice” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” Guitarist Keith Richards then assumed frontman duties from Jagger to lead the band on the first live “Little T&A” since October 25, 2016, per Setlist FM stats. The main set came to a close with a bevy of favorites: “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Miss You,” “Paint It Black” and finally “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” The Stones returned to deliver Hackney Diamonds standout “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” Mick was joined by newly minted backing singer Chanel Haynes, who stepped into the spotlight to deliver a soulful, soaring vocal alongside Jagger.
