Roger Waters Performs Pink Floyd Rarities In Mexico City

Last night Roger Waters returned to the stage after an 11 month layoff, performing the first of three shows at Foro Sol in Mexico City. The warmup for the Desert Trip festival saw the founding Pink Floyd bassist forgo his common The Wall-centric setlist and instead deliver a career-spanning performance of songs – including a few rarities – from throughout the legendary band’s catalog.
After opening the show with the Dark Side Of The Moon sequence of “Speak To Me” and “Breathe” and a take on “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun,” Waters played the Meddle track “One Of These Days” reportedly for the first time ever as a solo performer. Following a string of DSOTM cuts, another rarity from Meddle, the song “Fearless” was performed by Waters for just the second time in public, having purportedly only been played by Pink Floyd once in 1971 and not by any other member of the group prior to the performance last night in Mexico.
The 26-song concert also saw a sequence featuring songs from Animals including “Pigs On The Wing (Part 1),” “Dogs” and “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” and The Wall favorites “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)” and “Mother.” Though he didn’t have actor Benedict Cumberbatch join-in on vocals as his former Pink Floyd bandmate David Gilmour did in London last night, he did follow the guitarist’s lead in closing out the show with “Comfortably Numb.” Below are audience-shot videos from Mexico City:
