Robert Randolph, Rob Barraco & Nicki Bluhm Join Phil Lesh & Terrapin Family Band At Brooklyn Bowl

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh continued a rare multi-city run with The Terrapin Family Band on Monday night. Brooklyn Bowl hosted a performance that featured pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph, keyboardist Rob Barraco and vocalist Nicki Bluhm sitting-in throughout the two set show.

The Terrapin Family Band guitarist Grahame Lesh led the ensemble through a show opening rendition of the Dead’s “U.S. Blues.” Barraco, who was a part of the memorable Phil Lesh & Friends quintet (“The Q”) lineup and has only collaborated sporadically with the bassist in recent years, took charge of the group’s take on “Althea.” Bluhm handle lead vocals on the blues staple “Little Red Rooster” and Grahame was in charge of leading a song believed to be titled “Dreaming Of The Other Side.” Bluhm also fronted the collective on her recently shared single “Remember Love Wins” which was followed by Ross James singing Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up In Blue” and Bluhm handling the set closing “Deal.”

Set two focused almost exclusively on songs from the Grateful Dead’s repertoire, including “Truckin’” and “Bird Song” which got the action going. Phil was at the helm of his “Box Of Rain” which opened into a sequence made up of “Estimated Prophet” > “Eyes Of The World > “Wharf Rat” > “Peggy-O.” Grahame led a take on the David Crosby & Graham Nash original “The Wall Song” and all of the vocalists including drummer Alex Koford were involved in the set closing “Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad” and subsequent “The Weight” encore.

Phil will front a group consisting of Grahame Lesh, James, Koford, Barraco, Bluhm, Randolph and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band tonight at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. A live webcast of the Halloween show will be streamed by nugs.tv.
