Rich Robinson Debuts The Magpie Salute In New York City

Last night former The Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson debuted his new band The Magpie Salute at The Gramercy Theatre in New York City. The performance focused heavily on The Black Crowes material while also mixing in some covers and other selections as well.

Robinson is joined in the Magpie Salute by fellow former Crowes members Marc Ford on guitar and Sven Pipien on bass, as well as Rich Robinson Band drummer Joe Magistro and keyboardist Matt Slocum along with guitarist Nico Bereciartua, vocalist John Hogg and backing vocalists Charity White, Adrien Reju and Katrine Ottosen. Former The Black Crowes keyboardist Eddie Harsch was originally a member of the group prior to his passing last year.

The Magpie Salute opened their four night run at The Gramercy with a trio of Crowes tunes, “Descending,” “No Speak No Slave” and “Cypress Tree.” They also worked up arrangements of Elton John’s “Ballad Of A Well-Known Gun,” Delaney & Bonnie’s “Comin’ Home,” The Rolling Stones’ “Let It Loose” and Ford’s “All We Need to Do Is Love” and “Devil’s in the Details.”

The show ended with a run of Crowes songs including “Sometimes Salvation,” “Stare It Cold” and “Remedy.” View audience-shot video footage from last night’s The Magpie Salute debut below:
