Rhiannon Giddens Delivers High-Octane ‘You Louisiana Man’ Performance On ‘Kimmel’

Rhiannon Giddens served as the musical guest on Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Giddens led her band through “You Louisiana Man,” a Grammy-nominated song featured on her 2023 album, You're The One.

You’re The One marked Giddens’ first solo album since 2017’s Freedom Highway as well as the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s first LP of all-original songs. “You Louisiana Man” was nominated for a Grammy in the Best American Roots Performance category.

“This was the first song we recorded together in the studio,” Giddens said when “You Louisiana Man” was released, “and it was the one that set the tone for the rest of the week. Like kids on the first day of school, we were feeling out everyone in the room musically, and in that moment it all clicked. My folks, [producer] Jack’s [Splash] folks- we all listened to each other and found this beautiful place at the center of all our different sounds.”

Rhiannon Giddens recorded the 12-track You’re The One at the famed Criteria Recording Studios in Miami. Giddens was backed on Kimmel by a six-piece ensemble featuring fiddle, bass, guitar, keys, drums and a harmony vocalist. The North Carolina native strummed banjo and handled lead vocals for the energetic performance.
