Reyna Tropical delivered a performance for New York City non-commercial radio station WFUV on April 17. The project led by guitarist Fabi Reyna offered songs from their new album, Malegría.

Malegría arrived on March 29 via Sylvan Esso’s Psychic Hotline imprint. While Fabi’s Reyna Tropical bandmate ​​Nectali “Sumohair” Diaz sadly died in 2022, the producer’s presence can be felt across the album with material Reyna and Diaz worked on together dating back to 2020.

WFUV detailed Malegría:

Although Malegría is technically Fabi’s solo project, Sumo is very present for Fabi on this album, as is their mother, their ancestors, and all of the people they have loved … and that have loved them. Malegría is a beautiful, bittersweet, emotional passage between chapters in Reyna’s life.

Reyna — backed with tracks and samples from Antonia Estela Pérez — performed Malegría tracks including “Suavecito,” “Cartagena” and “Conexión Ancestral.” Watch below:
