Report: Dave Matthews To Record Solo Album In 2017

While the Dave Matthews Band is taking a well-deserved year off in 2017, we continue to hear more about members of the group’s plans for 2017. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds recently announced Dave & Tim Mexico featuring three concerts on the beach in Riviera Maya, Mexico February 23 – 25, 2017 and it looks as if Matthews will record a solo album next year.

As Jambands.com points out, longtime Dave collaborator Brady Blade appeared on the Don’t Give Up Your Day Job podcast and discussed the potential LP. DMBnews transcribed a portion of the chat in which Blade, the drummer on Matthews’ last solo album, 2003’s Some Devil, and a member of his Dave & Friends outfit, said, “Next year I’m working with Dave. I think he’s got to do another solo record, so we might get together on that.”

Brady also talked about supergroup the Nauts featuring Dave Matthews, Jakob Dylan, Bob Dylan guitarist Charlie Sexton and his brother Bill. Back in 2013 Rolling Stone revealed was “self-producing its debut album at Blade Studios, which [Brady Blade] co-owns.” Yet there’s been no word on the Nauts since…until this podcast. “It came about as, let’s get together as musicians and make some … music,” Blade said. “We ended up coming up with 14 different songs. Some of these songs are some of the best songs I’ve ever heard, because we had no agenda. So I’m looking at Dave, who never met Jakob, and they started getting along lyrically, because Dave’s a killer with melodies, and Jakob’s just like his dad, Bob. I hope it’s going to come out and have some kind of light of day. You never know what’s going to happen.”

Stay tuned as we see what lies ahead for Dave Matthews in 2017. Dave Matthews & Friends toured in late 2003 and early 2014 and then played sets at Bonnaroo ’04, Vegoose ’05 and as part of a 2006 cruise. Matthews and Blade were joined in the band by guitarists Trey Anastasio and Tim Reynolds, bassist Tony Hall and keyboardist Ray Paczkowski.
