R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe Joins Michael Shannon & Jason Narducy At ‘Life’s Rich Pageant’ Show In Brooklyn

Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy once again shared the stage with R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe. The latest collaboration occurred Saturday at Brooklyn Steel during Shannon and Narducy’s concert celebrating R.E.M.’s album, Life’s Rich Pageant.

In 2024, Shannon and Narducy toured around R.E.M.’s 1983 debut album, Murmur. Last year, the pair staged shows honoring R.E.M.’s 1985 album, Fables Of The Reconstruction. Both of those tours saw members of R.E.M. appear onstage at the 40 Watt in the city where they formed in 1983, Athens, Georgia.

Shannon and Narducy were joined by R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry and guitarist Peter Buck when the Life’s Rich Pageant run landed at the 40 Watt last month.

Shannon (vocals) and Narducy (guitar) are backed by keyboardist Vijay Tellis-Nayak, Wilco’s John Stirratt on bass, The Mountain Goats' Jon Wurster on drums and Poi Dog Pondering’s Dag Juhlin on guitar.

Like others on the tour, the show at Brooklyn Steel began with a complete track-by-track rendering of Life’s Rich Pageant. The band then delivered a second set consisting of other R.E.M. songs.

Stipe came out near the end of set two and joined the other musicians on the Life Rich’s Pageant second song, “These Days,” which was played earlier in the night. Stipe remained for the subsequent take on “The Great Beyond,” a song R.E.M. recorded for the 1999 feature film, Man On The Moon.
