Reid Genauer shared video featuring his cover of the Tea Leaf Green classic “Taught To Be Proud” on his social media channels. The Strangefolk/Assembly Of Dust guitarist went solo acoustic for his take on the title track to TLG’s 2005 studio album.

Tea Leaf Green multi-instrumentalist Trevor Garrod wrote “Taught To Be Proud.” Garrod will join Reid Genauer as part of the Reid Genauer & Folks lineup for upcoming concerts at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California on June 10 and at The Guild Theatre in Menlo Park, California on June 11. Drummer Ezra Lipp (ALO), guitarist Zach Nugent (Melvin Seals & JGB) and bassist John Leccese (Percy Hill) round out the “Folks” for the Bay Area gigs.

2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Tea Leaf Green forming. “In the early part of this century I recall the buzzy buzz about a relatively new band called Tea Leaf Green,” Genauer wrote in a note accompanying his “Taught To Be Proud” cover. “On several occasions the couch tour commentators compared Tea Leaf with my two groups Assembly Of Dust & Strangefolk. I always took the comparison with a shimmer of pride. Indeed there are similarities musically and interpersonally.”

Reid described the cover as a “[Saturday] afternoon ‘hmm…. I love this tune, I wish I had written it’ strummers rendition” of “Taught To Be Proud.” Watch his take below:
