Nearly 100 Injured, 7 Hospitalized By Hail Storm At Red Rocks

The storm led to the cancelization of Louis Tomlinson’s concert at the famed Colorado venue.

Dozens of Red Rocks concertgoers were injured, including seven hospitalized, on Wednesday when a dangerous hail storm struck the iconic Colorado venue. The storm delayed and eventually postponed a solo concert from One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson.

According to Denver’s Fox 31, the concert was delayed just after 8 p.m. MT with concertgoers advised to seek shelter. An all-clear was give around 8:35. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for the area at 9:04 p.m MT and Red Rocks officials announced another delay at 9:15 p.m. MT.

It appears the hail storm struck around this time, with Fox 31 reporting that “several inches of hail” fell with additional reports of golf-ball and even tennis ball sized hail. Concertgoers took shelter wherever they could — under boxes, signs and in bathrooms.

In a tweet, the West Metro Fire Department reported that seven people were hospitalized with “non-life-threatening injuries” while 80 to 90 people were treated on scene. Injuries included cuts and broken bones. Others reported bumps, bruises and welts.
