[Updated] Red Hot Chili Peppers Cancel Appearance After Anthony Kiedis Taken To Hospital

Red Hot Chili Peppers have issued the following statement regarding the status of frontman Anthony Kiedis and their upcoming concert appearances:
Due to Anthony Kiedis’ hospitalization from complications from the intestinal flu on Saturday evening, the Red Hot Chili Peppers regretfully must postpone their upcoming concert for iHeart Radio on May 17th. They would like to extend their gratitude to the fans for the outpouring of well wishes. Anthony is expected to make a full recovery soon.
Yesterday, Red Hot Chili Peppers were among the acts slated to play the KROQ Weenie Roast at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre in Irvine, California. Prior to their set, frontman Anthony Kiedis was taken to the hospital and the band was forced to cancel their planned appearance.
Kiedis was reportedly suffering “extreme stomach pain” and taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Rock band Weezer extended their set to make up for the RHCP cancellation. The event also saw performances by Garbage, The Lumineers, Empire Of The Sun, Panic! At The Disco, Fitz & The Tantrums, Miike Snow and a surprise performance by Blink-182.
At the time RHCP were expected to take the stage, the band addressed the crowed, with bassist Flea stating:
Anthony is on his way to the hospital right now and we’re unable to play for you this evening. We are devastated about it. We’re really sad. We love you so much. We live to rock. We live to fucking dig deep into the depths of our hearts and rock. But unfortunately there’s a medical thing that happened and he needed to deal with it.
Drummer Chad Smith tweeted his well wishes to his band mate.
Red Hot Chili Peppers’ next appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17 for a special show as part of the AT&T LIVE series at the iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank, California. Below is audience-captured footage of Flea addressing the crowd at the KROQ Weenie Roast last night:
