The Rare Sounds, a supergroup featuring founding members of The New Mastersounds and The Greyboy Allstars, issued their debut single, “Yeah, You!” via Color Red. The quartet shared the song ahead of taking the stage together for the first time tomorrow (Friday, October 1) and Saturday, October 2 at Denver’s Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom.

The band consists of guitarist Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds), bassist Chris Stillwell (The Greyboy Allstars), keyboardist Robert Walter (The Greyboy Allstars) and drummer Zak Najor (Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, formerly of Greyboy Allstars). Robert Walter penned “Yeah, You!” which The Rare Sounds recorded as part of sessions held in August 2020 at San Francisco’s Hyde Street Studios.

Walter characterized “Yeah, You!” as “70s jazz-funk and fusion before the edges and dissonance were smoothed over to make it more commercial.” The five-minute track has a bombastic beat and while it would fit nicely into TNM or GBA’s repertoires, The Rare Sounds added their own vibe and hard-nosed edge to the song.

More tracks from The Rare Sounds’ Hyde Street Studios session are due out “in the coming months” with additional live performances currently in the works. Stream “Yeah, You!” below:
