Radiohead Releases ‘OK Computer’ Demos
Radiohead released a collection of demos “from around the time” of their 1997 landmark album, OK Computer. The band will donate proceeds from sales of the demos to Extinction Rebellion, a non-violent, climate change activist movement that began in 2018.
The 18 hours of recordings are from frontman Thom Yorke‘s hacked minidisk archive and were recently leaked online. According to a statement posted by guitarist Jonny Greenwood, a person with the hacked demos was trying to extort $150,000 from the band, who instead chose to release the lengthy collection for charity. The 18 demo tracks will only be available for £18 ($22.81) on the Radiohead Bandcamp page for 18 days.
