Early this year JamBase introduced readers to the Naugatuck High School Percussion Ensemble, a group of talented high school students from Connecticut who performed a stellar rendition of the early Phish gem, “Divided Sky.” The Naugatuck High School Percussion Ensemble recently assembled at Telefunken’s microphone laboratory to lay down “Divided Sky” for the company’s Live From The Lab video series.
Trey Anastasio and the Phish organization gave NHS Percussion their blessing to perform the song and longtime Trey collaborator Don Hart helped Dave Dion with the compositional aspect of the piece. Instructors Dave Pelaggi, Donny Binette, Bob Wilcox, Erin McLaughlin and Jordan Tulley did a masterful job with the students.
The students performed “Divided Sky” at numerous competitions. Over the year the version has had a few nice touches added to it which are showed off in the “Divided Sky” played for Live From The Lab. Watch the Naugatuck High School Percussion Ensemble tackle the Junta classic:
