Last Friday night, Holly Bowling continued her Fall Tour with a stop at the Ardmore Music Hall in the Philadelphia suburb of Ardmore, Pennsylvania. The pianist presented a solo show that mixed the music of Phish and the Grateful Dead and featured a sit-in on a surprise Radiohead cover during the opening frame.
Bowling presented a two-set show that saw her interpret Phish tunes like “My Friend, My Friend,” “Piper” and the classic pairing of “Colonel Forbin’s Ascent” > “Fly Famous Mockingbird” while also delving into the Dead’s songbook for “Cassidy,” “Let It Grow,” “Brokedown Palace” and more. As the piano player was wrapping up her first set Raina Mullen emerged to help her close it out.
The singer-guitarist, who is Bowling’s Ghost Light band mate, teamed up with Holly for a tune outside of the night’s billed material as they offered up a take on Radiohead’s “Black Star.” Mullen sang lead on the track from the English rock act’s 1995 release The Bends with Bowling providing backup harmonies.
