The Prince Estate and Warner Records released “Forever In My Life (Early Vocal Studio Run-Through).” The previously unheard track will land on the upcoming expanded reissue of Prince’s 1987 double LP, Sign O’ The Times, arriving on September 25.

“Forever In My Life (Early Vocal Studio Run-Through)” follows a previously unheard version of “Witness 4 The Prosecution.” The new track “features Prince lowering his guard and exposing vulnerability in his music,” as per a statement. “At the time it was recorded he was engaged to Susannah Melvoin and the song stands as a testament to his feelings and outlook during this formative period in his life.”

Prince built the song from the ground up beginning with just an acoustic guitar track and then layering in drums, bass, guitar embellishments and a myriad of vocal tracks, one of which did not appear on the original release but is heard on “Forever In My Life (Early Vocal Studio Run-Through).” Read Susannah Melvoin’s memories of Prince sharing the song with her below:

He had been up all night and he came upstairs. It was like 7:00 in the morning and he grabbed my hand and said “follow me,” and so I followed him downstairs. The sun was coming through the stained-glass windows and he pressed play, and that song came on and I looked at him and I got teary-eyed. And that was it. He didn’t have to say anything.
