This past summer, Primus embarked on a lengthy tour with Mastodon. On Tuesday night, Primus brought their Fall Tour to the Georgia Theatre in Athens, where they were joined by one of their old tour mates as part of the evening’s encore.
Bassist Les Claypool, drummer Tim Alexander and guitarist Larry LaLonde began the night with a focus on classic material including a version of “Too Many Puppies” featuring “Sgt. Baker” in the middle and “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver.” Primus then treated fans to a complete performance of their latest album The Desaturating Seven.
The band followed the complete LP performance with fan favorites “Welcome To This World,” “My Name Is Mud” and “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver.” Primus began “Southbound Pachyderm” as the encore in Athens. Claypool welcomed Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds for an extended jam out of “Southbound Pachyderm.” Les introduced Hinds as “Captain Jack Sparrow” since the guitarist was sporting a pirate hat. Brent jammed with the trio for six minutes to bring the show to a close.
