Watch Primus Debut ‘Follow The Fool’ Live In Madison

Primus offered their first live performance of new original “Follow The Fool” during their Saturday night concert in Madison, Wisconsin. The cut from the trio’s recently released Conspiranoid EP was the penultimate song of the night at The Sylvee.

The group consisting of bassist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander are bringing their A Tribute To Kings tour to cities across North American through June and will play a few shows in August before a trip to Europe. Primus’ concert in Madison followed the same format as other stops on the trek with a set of originals followed by a performance of Rush’s 1977 LP A Farewell To Kings in its entirety and an encore with more originals.

Conspiranoid arrived this past Friday. Primus previously debuted its lead single, “Conspiranoia” earlier this month at their first 2022 concert and have performed the song at each show since. “Because the single ‘Conspiranoia’ is of such length, I realized that for a B-side of the vinyl, we would need at least two tunes to fill out the real estate of the actual 12-inch disc,” Les Claypool told Consequence. “I had the song ‘Follow the Fool’ in the chamber and we fleshed it out.” So far, “Erin On The Side Of Caution” is the lone song from Conspiranoid yet to be performed live.

Primus treated fans to a 17-song concert in Madison. Beloved staples “Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers,” “My Name Is Mud” and “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver” were among tunes played in the opening set of originals. Additionally, the three-piece served up the tour’s first take on Brown Album gem “Duchess And The Proverbial Mind Spread” early in the night. The band said farewell after covering A Farewell To Kings with a three-song encore featuring fan favorites “Here Come The Bastards” and “Southbound Pachyderm” split by “Follow The Fool.” Next up for Primus is a stop in Knoxville, Tennessee tonight.
