Watch Primus Perform New Single ‘Conspiranoia’ Live In San Antonio

Primus launched the 2022 leg of their A Tribute To Kings Tour this past weekend with concerts in Oklahoma City on Friday and San Antonio on Saturday. The trio led by Les Claypool added new single, “Conspiranoia,” to the setlist and high-quality fan-shot video of Saturday’s performance surfaced and can be viewed below.

A studio version of the lengthy “Conspiranoia” was released earlier this month. The song serves as the title track of Primus' Conspiranoid EP, which arrives digitally this Friday, April 22 through ATO Records. Conspiranoid is the three-piece’s first new music since their last full-length studio album, The Desaturating Seven, came out in 2017.

“I’d been itching to record an opus–basically a long, winding, bastard of a song, reminiscent of some of the compositions I cut my teeth (or ears) on, in my music-hungry adolescence,” Les Claypool told Consequence regarding the new tune. “”Conspiranoia” was sprouted from a seed I had planted in my notebook a year or so ago–a few lines commenting on the mental state of the contemporary world.”

Samples used in the studio version about wild conspiracy theories played over the p.a. at San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre as Primus performed “Conspiranoia” live. Claypool, drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander and guitarist Larry LaLonde fit the new song into their first set in Oklahoma City and San Antonio. Primus went on to devote each second set to a complete performance of Rush’s 1977 LP, A Farewell To Kings, before encoring with more original material.
