Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Present ‘Daft Side Of The Moon’ Halloween Run
The band played three shows that featured setlists loaded with covers of songs by Daft Punk and Pink Floyd.
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s three-show Halloween run featured setlists stacked with covers of songs by Daft Punk and Pink Floyd. The “Daft Side Of The Moon” themed shows were held on Halloween in Columbus, Ohio as well as in Pittsburgh on October 30 and in Washington D.C. on October 29.
Like the previous two shows, Halloween night at Express LIVE featured PPPP debuting new Daft Punk and Pink Floyd covers as well as mashups of songs by all of the groups. The October 31 concert began with the first set opening mashup of PPPP’s own “Too Long” and Daft Punk’s “Too Long” dubbed “Two Long.” The band then wrapped “Fun In Funk” around Pink Floyd’s “Young Lust” and similarly dropped into Daft Punk’s “Digital Love” within a subsequent “Zydeko.”
Floyd’s “On The Run” came next. A transition into “Funk E Zekiel” opened up into a Floyd sandwich of “Run Like Hell” into “Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 1” back into “Run Like Hell” ahead of a return to “Funk E Zekiel” to end the first set.
“High As Five” was chosen to open set two and deviated into Daft Punk’s “Crescendolls” before the band returned to the opener. “Twitch” was then used to enclose a performance of Floyd’s “Brain Damage,” with its lyrics altered to reference the “Daft side of the moon.” The set continued with “Julia” segueing into a mashup of Daft Punk’s “Around The World” and “Get Lucky,” which segued into PPPP’s first cover of Floyd’s “The Happiest Days Of Our Lives” since 2011. Without stopping, they then moved on to “Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2-3” and then back to finish “Julia.”
One more Daft Punk sandwich was served as the set closed with “Water” transitioning into “One More Time” and then back into “Water.” PPPP guitarist Greg Ormont was saluted at the start of the encore with a birthday celebration. The band’s “Daft Side Of The Moon” run ended with the guitarist playing the intro to “Wish You Were Here” and “Pigs On The Wing Pt. 1” solo, before the rest of the band emerged for a “King Kong” finale.
