Greensky Bluegrass will celebrate both their 25th anniversary and the release of a new album, XXV, with a two-night stand over Halloween weekend in their hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The string quintet just announced they’ve recruited longtime collaborators Sam Bush, Holly Bowling and Lindsay Lou to perform with them as special guests at Kalamazoo’s Wings Event Center.
Bluegrass legend Sam Bush and acclaimed singer-songwriter Lindsay Lou will join GSBG on Friday, October 31. Then, Lou and celebrated keyboardist Holly Bowling will serve as the band’s special guests on Saturday, November 1.
Mandolinist Paul Hoffman, guitarist Dave Bruzza and banjoist Michael Arlen Bont first took the stage under the Greensky Bluegrass moniker for an impromptu show on Halloween night in Kalamazoo in 2000. Bassist Mike Devol came aboard in 2004 and dobroist Anders Beck cemented the GSBG lineup in 2007.

Greensky Bluegrass re-recorded 13 live staples for XXV, which arrives on Halloween. The album features contributions from several friends they’ve made over the past 25 years, including Bush, Bowling, Lou, Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff, Aoife O’Donovan, Jason Hann and Ivan Neville.
The five-piece recently shared their new version of “Old Barns” from XXV. “This song marked the beginning of a new writing style,” remembered Hoffman. “I started listening to things around me more than trying to control all the ideas. This song is special because it’s a survival story about my friend’s father from his perspective. I learned (heard) something really special about love and being a parent. Now that I am a father, the power of the lesson is even more profound, and I carry it with me.”
