The quartet’s Fall 1999 performance at Portland Meadows marked their last concert in Rose City for 25 years. Phish returned to Portland on April 20 to wrap the Pacific Northwest leg of their 2025 Spring Tour at Moda Center.
Portland Meadows hosted the fourth show of Phish’s fall tour in 1999. The band opened with “First Tube,” a staple from guitarist Trey Anastasio's debut solo tour the previous May that Phish added to the repertoire on September 9 in Vancouver. “Poor Heart” followed along with the second performance of “Mozambique,” a TAB tune that would disappear from Phish setlists by the end of the month.
An outrageous 19-minute “Bathtub Gin” was the improvisational centerpiece of Phish’s first set at Portland Meadows. It would foreshadow the masterful “Ghost” that kicked off the closing stanza. The Portland ’99 “Ghost” scored high marks both for its length and adventurousness.
“Ghost” gave way to “Runaway Gin,” which bled into “Roggae.” Phish punctuated the five-song second set with just their second-ever pairing of “2001” and “You Enjoy Myself.” The band capped the night with a “Theme From The Bottom” encore.
