Phish showed off their acting chops on last night’s installment of Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney. The band members portrayed the Seinfeld cast in a pair of pre-recorded bits featured in the eighth episode of the Netflix live variety show.
Guitarist Trey Anastasio was Jerry, while bassist Mike Gordon was George, keyboardist Page McConnell was Kramer and drummer Jon Fishman donned a dress as Elaine. Host John Mulaney peeked in on Phish in Jerry’s apartment during his opening monologue. More “What If Seinfeld Was Phish” footage aired towards the end of the program. Mike Goron replicated the sitcom’s legendary slap bass soundtrack for the bits.

The appearance was a full circle moment of sorts for the Vermont-based quartet, as Jerry Seinfeld was among the other guests when the band made their national television debut on the December 30, 1994 episode of the Late Show With David Letterman. Danny Clinch shot an iconic photo of Phish with Jerry Seinfeld backstage at the Ed Sullivan Theater that the band published in the Spring 1995 Doniac Schvice newsletter.
Phish did a fine job in the offbeat parody. Each musician wore a wig except for Anastasio, whose hair was puffed up into a pompadour. McConnell recreated Kramer’s trademark entrance while Fish shoved Page in true Elaine fashion.

John Mulaney also welcomed guests Ronny Chieng, Molly Shannon, Dr. Emily Methangkool, Marc Maron, Maggie Rogers and John Cale. Though Marc Maron didn’t discuss his experience attending his first Phish show on Friday night at Hollywood Bowl, he spoke about it extensively on his WTF podcast.
The Velvet Underground co-founder John Cale performed “Shark-Shark” with Maggie Rogers late in the show. The song appears on Cale’s 2024 studio album, POPtical Illusion.
Phish was also mentioned in Stephen Colbert’s monologue on Wednesday’s episode of The Late Show. The host brought up the band while discussing President Donald Trump’s economic policies. Colbert cracked a joke about “your girlfriend’s review of a Phish concert.” He then noted “I love ’em, I think they’re great.” Bandleader Louis Cato shouted out Anastasio to which Colbert responded, “We love Trey. Fuego.”
