Bassist Karina Rykman performed a concert with her band on Saturday at Nectar’s in Burlington, Vermont. Phish bassist Mike Gordon dropped by his old stomping grounds to accompany the band on a double bass performance of “City Kids.”
Rykman is currently on a tour of the Northeast with her bandmates, guitarist Adam November and drummer Chris Corsico. On Friday night, Rykman brought out 10-year-old bassist Ruby Adams during her performance at Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke, Massachusetts.
Rykman, who got to jam with Phish while playing Gordon’s bass rig at Madison Square Garden in December 2018, welcomed the fellow bassist to the Nectar’s stage in the middle of her set Saturday night. Gordon and Phish have a long history at Nectar’s, the venue where they regularly performed during the band’s nascent years. Gordon added a second bass to Rykman’s original “City Kids,” which she released in 2020.
“[T]hat was one of the most epic shows we’ve ever played, and it’s thanks to all of YOU!,” Rykman wrote after the show. “And Mike Gordon for ripping ‘City Kids’ with us! And H3adgear for opening the night! And everyone at Nectar’s for their exceptional hospitality! I’m overwhelmed with gratitude.”
