New Twist On Old + In The Way: Sam Grisman Project & Peter Rowan Confirm Joint Tour Dates

Guitarist Peter Rowan was a member of the groundbreaking bluegrass band Old & In The Way, a group that also included famed mandolinist David Grisman. Rowan will unite with David Grisman’s son Sam Grisman and the Sam Grisman Project for a run of four concerts in Colorado this summer.

Each concert will feature two sets with different formats. One set will find the Sam Grisman Project pulling material from their massive repertoire of covers and originals. The other will see the SGP and Peter Rowan “explore the catalog of Old & In The Way and beyond” as per an announcement of socials.

Sam Grisman Project’s lineup for the Colorado concerts with Peter Rowan will see Sam on upright bass joined by drummer/percussionist Chris J. English, mandolinist Dominick Leslie, guitar player Max Flansburg, fiddler Shad Cobb and banjo player Bennett Sullivan. Old & In The Way featured Rowan, David Grisman, Jerry Garcia, Vassar Clements and John Kahn.

“To say that we’re thrilled and honored wouldn’t quite do justice to how we really feel about playing four shows in Colorado this summer alongside our hero, the great Peter Rowan,” wrote the Sam Grisman Project in note. “It’s going to be a high time and a high honor to dive into some music with the one and only Panama Red and there’s no place we’d rather be late in the summer than high in the mountains, pickin’ with Pete!”

The Peter Rowan with Sam Grisman Project tour of Colorado begins on August 22 at the Colorado Chautauqua in Boulder. The collaborative trek then hits Denver’s Gothic Theatre on August 23 and the Vilar PAC in Beaver Creek on August 24. Rowan and the SGP are currently slated to end the run at the idyllic Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Bellevue on August 25.
