Paul Simon has issued a statement about his farewell tour. Read the entire note towards the bottom of this article.
Singer-songwriter Paul Simon appears ready to ride off into the sunset. The legendary musician who has achieved 29 Top 40 singles in the U.S. alone and has received nearly all honors a rock musician can receive has just announced U.S. and European legs of “Homeward Bound – The Farewell Tour.”
As reported, Paul Simon will play London’s Hyde Park on Sunday, July 15 as part of a lineup that also includes James Taylor & His All-Star Band and Bonnie Raitt with additional acts set to be announced. For now, the Hyde Park performance will end the tour. However, Simon kicks off the run with a month-long North American jaunt and a series of European dates. What’s most surprising is the lack of at least one show in his native New York City. So don’t be surprised if Paul adds at least one more concert to his farewell tour.

Paul Simon’s Homeward Bound – The Farewell Tour begins in Vancouver on May 18. From there, Simon and his band will play Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Oakland, Las Vegas and Denver before heading to Texas for shows in Dallas, Houston and Austin. A Midwest run features stops in Chicago, St. Paul, Detroit and Toronto. Then, Paul Simon heads to the East Coast to end the leg with concerts in Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, Greensboro and Nashville.
The European leg starts in Stockholm on June 30. Next up are shows in Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Holland and a run of performances in the U.K. ending with the Hyde Park set.
Paul Simon said the following in a statement: “I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end. Now I know: it feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief. I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight, extraordinary group of gifted musicians. I think about music constantly. I am very grateful for a fulfilling career and, of course, most of all to the audiences who heard something in my music that touched their hearts.”
