Paul McCartney kicked off the final leg of his 2024 Got Back Tour on Wednesday with his first of two concerts at La Défense Arena just outside Paris. The legendary musician used the occasion to dust off “Michelle,” a Beatles ballad with part of its lyrics sung in French.
“Michelle” was originally released by the Beatles on their landmark 1965 studio album, Rubber Soul. McCartney first started work on the song in 1958 and was prompted and helped by John Lennon to complete “Michelle.”

Paul McCartney regularly featured “Michelle” in his shows during tours in 1993, 2002 and 2003. The song has been performed sparingly since with the previous performance before last night coming at the same Parisian venue on November 28, 2018.
“Michelle” was performed in the middle of McCartney’s concert at La Défense Arena. Macca went unplugged for the tune as he and Rusty Anderson played acoustic guitars with Brian Ray on acoustic bass, Paul “Wix” Wickens on accordion and Abe Laboriel Jr. utilizing a small drum kit.
