Paul McCartney Joins James Corden For ‘Carpool Karaoke’

Thursday night’s episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden featured the highly anticipated appearance of Paul McCartney on host James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke series. Corden and Macca drove around Liverpool and made a few stops, where the pair surprised residents of Paul’s hometown. The show has posted an extended, 23-minute version of McCartney’s Carpool Karaoke installment.

Paul took shotgun position when he initially gets into Corden’s car. The duo went on to sing the Beatles’ hit “Drive My Car” before Macca and James discussed the first songs they wrote. One of the first stops the pair made is at Penny Lane, where of course they started singing “Penny Lane.” The legendary performer and talk show host go on to visit the salon that inspired one of the lines from the song.

The conversation took an emotional turn after Corden asked about the continued influence of the Beatles. McCartney explained the genesis of “Let It Be” before the duo sang the song. The next stop was the Liverpool home where Macca spent his formative years. Paul discussed some of the moments that took place at the flat as a crowd gathered outside.

While most of the installment featured Paul and James singing Beatles songs, they also tackled “Come On To Me” from McCartney’s forthcoming Egypt Station album. Paul’s appearance on Carpool Karoake concluded with McCartney giving locals the surprise of their lives by performing at a pub.
