Bruce Springsteen Joins Lineup For Patti Smith Tribute At Carnegie Hall
The star-studded People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith tribute concert is set for Wednesday, March 26.

Bruce Springsteen has been added to the lineup for the all-star “People Have the Power: A Celebration of Patti Smith” tribute concert. The show will take place at the renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City this Wednesday, March 26.
The Boss joins an illustrious roster of performers set to honor Smith that also includes R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, The National’s Matt Berninger, Courtney Barnett, Sharon Van Etten, Chrissie Hynde, Glen Hansard, Jim Jarmusch, Susanna Hoffs, The Kills’ Alison Mosshart, Kronos Quartet, Ben Harper, Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ Karen O, Kim Gordon, Jesse Malin and Angel Olsen, among others.

Longtime Patti Smith collaborator Tony Shanahan will serve as musical director. Shanahan will be joined in the house band by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, The Rolling Stones drummer Steve Jordan, former Bob Dylan guitarist Charlie Sexton and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench. The show coincides with the 50th anniversary of Patti Smith’s landmark 1975 album, Horses.
The concert is the 20th annual “Music Of” benefit organized by impresario Michael Dorf. Net proceeds from the concert will go to music education for underserved youth. Tickets are sold out.
Patti Smith scored her biggest hit with the Bruce Springsteen co-written single “Because The Night.” Smith included the song on her 1978 album, Easter.
