Patti Smith appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon during the recent Bruce Springsteen residency on the long-running late night program. Smith shared the story of how she came to co-write “Because The Night” with Bruce and more.

Smith recounted the tale of how renowned producer Jimmy Iovine sent her a demo of “Because The Night” while she was working on her 1978 album Easter. At the time, she was in a long-distance relationship with her future husband, Fred “Sonic” Smith of MC5, and was waiting on an important call from him, which would influence her input on the tune. Patti also talked her new book, A Book Of Days, watching the John Wick movies after posting a picture with Keanu Reeves and more.
