Patrick Carney & Jack White Have Altercation In New York City Bar

The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney claimed in a series of (since deleted) tweets that guitarist Jack White tried to pick a fight with him in a bar in New York City last night. White responded with a statement denying Carney’s allegations and now, after an apparent phone call, the two musicians have reconciled their differences.

The dust up began with a number of tweets from Carney which included his assertion about White that, “He came to a bar in Nyc I go to a lot with a few friends and tried to fight me” [sic]. Though he deleted the other tweets about the altercation, this missive remains:

White stirred up animosity with The Black Keys a few years ago after an email surfaced during divorce proceedings in which The White Stripes guitarist railed on the Akron, Ohio duo (particularly guitarist Dan Auerbach) but ended up apologizing to the band, later saying “I wish the band the Black Keys all the success that they can get.” In response to Carney’s tweets, White issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly, which read:

Nobody tried to fight you, Patrick. Nobody touched you or ‘bullied’ you. You were asked a question you couldn’t answer so you walked away. So quit whining to the Internet and speak face to face like a human being. End of story.

Not satisfied with White’s version of events, Carney issued his own statement to EW, telling the outlet:

I got into music because of people like him. The bully assholes who made me feel like nothing. Music was a collaborative and non competitive thing. So, to get macho bullsh-t from within the musical community makes me angry and sad.

Moments ago Carney followed up with yet another (since deleted) tweet, this time indicating he’d spoken to White on the phone and “he’s cool” and “All good.”
