Oteil Burbridge & Friends kicked off a two-night run at Brooklyn Bowl on Wednesday. The Dead & Company bassist and his band launched the show with a Grateful Dead/Pink Floyd mashup.
The Oteil & Friends lineup includes guitarists Steve Kimock and Tom Guarna, organist Melvin Seals, keyboardist Jason Crosby, vocalist Lamar Williams Jr. and drummer John Morgan Kimock. To begin their Brooklyn Bowl stand the ensemble offered a one-two punch of GD’s “Estimated Prophet” and Pink Floyd’s “Money” with a Bob Marley/Peter Tosh tag of “Get Up, Stand Up.”

Additional Grateful Dead favorites performed included “Stella Blue,” “Shakedown Street” and “Scarlet Begonias.” The band also touched on Jerry Garcia‘s solo catalog with “Run For The Roses.” Additionally, Oteil nodded to his time with the The Allman Brothers Band with “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.”
Oteil & Friends wrapped the second set with a cover from gospel group, Mighty High Clouds Of Joy, “Mighty High.” The band returned to conclude night one at Brooklyn Bowl with the Grateful Dead’s staple cover of Bobby Bland’s “Turn On Your Love Light.”
