Opening Night | Tool Kicks Off Tour In Spokane
By Scott Bernstein Mar 5, 2014 • 10:40 am PST

Maynard and Co. treated fans to 11 songs split by an intermission. When the band returned from the intermission, drummer Danny Carey showed off his skills with an extended drum solo. Last night’s setlist featured a whopping five songs off Ænima, an album that’s nearly 18 years old, including fan-favorite “Forty-Six & 2.” As far as the stage design, Rolling Stone reports “An ever-shifting screen layout, splashed with macabre and disturbing imagery was combined with a tapestry of laser beams and periodic blasts of confetti to shift attention away from the band members themselves and toward a more deeply immersive experience. It’s a relatively ego-free move, putting presentation ahead of the players.”
