MMJ stuck mainly to originals during the opening stanza as they worked through their repertoire since there were no repeats throughout the event. The few covers in the first set were Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon,” which they performed with Neil at last October’s Bridge School Benefits, and a version of The Band via Marvin Gaye’s “Don’t Do It” that featured the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

The second set started off with a song a piece from their three most recent albums: 2005’s Z (“Wordless Chorus”), 2008’s Evil Urges (“Touch Me I’m Going to Scream Pt.1”) and 2011’s Circuital (“The Day I’m Coming”). Jim James and Co. then welcomed Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne for a cover of George Harrison’s “Isn’t It A Pity.” The cover parade continued with a rare take on Wham’s “Careless Whisper.” Members of the band and their crew threw bananas into the crowd as they wished guitarist Carl Broemel a Happy Birthday. Preservation Hall Jazz Band re-emerged to help out on “Highly Suspicious,” “Dancefloors” and Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long,” which also featured longtime Jim James friend and band member Dave Givan. “Rock The Casbah” served as the second set closer and saw Coyne hold up lyrics on the back of show posters before throwing them into the crowd. As you might expect, My Morning Jacket concluded the destination event with a “One Big Holiday” encore.
