Nitty Gritty Dirt Band shared “Night After Night,” the veteran rocker’s first original music since 2009. The song serves as the title track to a forthcoming EP that was produced by longtime collaborator, Jerry Douglas.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band includes co-founder Jeff Hanna, his son, guitarist Jaime Hanna, along with drummer Jimmie Fadden, Hammond organ player Bob Carpenter and mandolin player Ross Holmes. The group was joined on “Night After Night” by Douglas on lap steel guitar and Viktor Krauss on acoustic and Tic-Tac bass.
“My friend, Buddy Miller, sent me the tune ‘Night After Night,’ written by two of my favorites: Paul Kennerley and Daniel Tashian,” Jeff Hanna stated. “The band’s response was an immediate ‘Oh, hell yes!’”
The last Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album of original material was 2009’s Speed Of Life. The band released a collection of Bob Dylan songs, Dirt Does Dylan, in 2022.
The Night After Night EP, which was recorded at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville and The Tractor Shed Studio in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, comes out on October 24. The song “Nashville Skyline” was co-written by Jeff Hanna and his wife, Matraca Berg, who appears on the track. Jeff’s son/bandmate Jaime Hanna also helped compose the song.
