In 2010, singer-songwriter Nicole Atkins recorded a cover of “Vitamin C” by seminal German krautrock act Can. Atkins version of the song off Can’s classic album Ege Bamyasi was released on vinyl later that year, which has since gone out of print. Today, the Jersey Shore native issued the cover digitally for the first time.

“I recorded Can’s ‘Vitamin C’ almost eight years ago one afternoon at Retromedia in Red Bank, New Jersey and only released it as a 7″ vinyl,” Atkins explained in a statement. “Recently we’ve been playing it in our live set again and through tags on Instagram I noticed that some B-Boys have been using my version to breakdance at competitions. I decided I should release it digitally so more people can hear it and more easily dance to it!”

Nicole Atkins has since moved from New Jersey to Nashville. The vocalist released the critically-acclaimed studio album Goodnight Rhonda Lee last year. Atkins will start her latest tour in support of the record at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California on June 12.
