Vocalist Nicole Atkins has confirmed the July 21 release of her new studio album Goodnight Rhonda Lee via Single Lock Records. The current Nashville-resident has shared the title track from the forthcoming studio LP.
The 11-song Goodnight Rhonda Lee was recorded and produced by Niles City Sound in Fort Worth, Texas, with additional mixing provided by Ben Tanner. It took just five days to complete the LP, which was recorded live direct to tape. The album’s content was inspired in part by Atkins recent relocation from Asbury Park, New Jersey to Nashville, as well as her attempts at sobriety and father’s serious illness.
“This record came to me at a time of deep transition,” Atkins said. “Some days were good, some not so good. What I did gain, though, from starting to make some changes and going inward, and putting it out on the table, was a joy in what I do again. Joy in the process and a newfound confidence that I don’t think I’ve ever had until now. The album title, Goodnight Rhonda Lee, also came from those feelings. Rhonda Lee was kind of my alias for bad behavior, and it was time to put that persona to bed.”
Longtime friend Chris Isaak encouraged Atkins to emphasize her voice on the new album, and he helped write the single “A Little Crazy,” which came out last year. Atkins has also shared “Goodnight Rhonda Lee” from the forthcoming album, stream both singles here:
